Penguins Top Prospect Scores Twice in Return to WHL

18-year-old Brayden Yager impressed in his first training camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but was recently sent back to his Western Hockey League team, the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The most recent first round pick of the Penguins never looked out of place at the NHL camp, but his big break into the league is still down the road.

In the meantime, Yager will continue to hone his game with the Warriors and he got off to a great start in his first game back at the WHL level.

Yager picked up two goals and an assist for a three-point night against the the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Warriors won the contest 5-2 and Yager was named the first star of the game.

Yager’s first goal came on the power play and he put his impressive shooting ability of full display.

No moves or fancy dangles, Yager just showed his powerful shot with pinpoint accuracy.

This goal would eventually be listed as the game winner for the Warriors.

Yager’s second goal was once again an example of him showing off his shooting ability.

On a 2-on-2 rush with, both Wheat Kings defenders collapsed on the puck carrier, leaving Yager wide open in the center of their zone.

Yager made no mistake and once again ripped a perfectly placed shot.

Both of Yager’s goals happened back-to-back in the second frame and is already proving to be a huge boost for the Warriors who started their season 1-2.

One of those losses included a 9-4 beat down at the hands of the Wheat Kings.

It isn’t easy for Penguins fans to catch WHL games, but it’ll be important to keep up with Yager and seeing how he progresses into an NHLer over the next few years.
